This Cookie Policy explains how Subquest uses cookies and similar technologies across the website (subquest.dev) and the game application (app.subquest.dev). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by a website. "Similar technologies" include local storage, which lets a site remember small pieces of information in your browser. Some storage is strictly necessary to deliver a service you asked for; other storage is used for analytics, personalization or advertising and generally requires your consent.
2. The website (subquest.dev)
This website is cookieless. It sets no advertising, marketing or cross-site tracking cookies. It stores a single functional value in your browser's local storage:
subquest-lang— remembers whether you prefer the English or Romanian version of the site. This is functional, set at your request, and is not used to track you.
3. Analytics
We measure aggregate traffic with Umami, a privacy-focused, self-hosted analytics tool. Umami is cookieless: it sets no cookies, creates no persistent identifiers and does not collect data that identifies you individually. Because it is cookieless and non-identifying, it does not require a consent banner.
4. The game application (app.subquest.dev)
When you sign in to play, the application uses strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in and to secure your session. These cookies are essential to provide the service you requested (a personal account with saved progress) and are exempt from the consent requirement under the ePrivacy rules. The application does not use them for advertising or cross-site tracking.
5. Why you don't see a cookie banner
A consent banner is required only where a site sets non-essential cookies (such as advertising or cookie-based analytics). This website sets none, and the application uses only strictly necessary cookies. If we ever introduce non-essential cookies, we will ask for your consent first and update this policy.
6. Managing cookies
You can clear or block cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies on the application may prevent you from signing in or saving progress.
